If your machine is telling you "Open window and check printhead cover is properly closed," the most likely cause is the upper frame on the ink tube system is cracked or broken. The printhead cover on the carriage locks into the lower latch in the ink tube system. If the lower latch is compromised, the machine will not function. 

This latch is designed and manufactured exclusively by LPS. Includes lifetime warranty.

Desingjet 510 purple printhead latch

This replacement was much better than previous ones. I had problems due to "flash" left around the pins during the manufacturing process that made the latch too tight to pivot when installed, leading to pin breakage. I tried filing them down with the same result. The last 4 I bought are perfectly cast, and so far no issues with them.

Replacement Purple Latch

The purple print heat had become brittle and was about snap. Replaced it with and LPS re engineered latch. It is a 3D printed version to the same right tolerance but far stronger. I cant believe the ingenuity of the LPS team. My DesignJet 500 is good to go for another 10 years.
